BRITISH PARAVOLLEY squads
The purpose of our British ParaVolley squads is to develop athletes within the discipline of sitting volleyball for the international stage.
When an athlete is identified with potential, they begin in our development group, getting support to develop the foundational skills required at international level. When this is achieved, they can move into the respective GB squad.
The BVF aims to identify, nurture and prepare athletes to realise their potential as performance athletes and flourish as individuals.
The goal for a GB athlete is to work within a team to sustain high quality performance over three to ten days of international competition. This requires physical athleticism, mental resilience, team-work and lifestyle stability developed over years of dedicated practice.
How athletes prioritise and focus their training will change as their journey progresses, in line with their developing needs. The BVF aims to support athletes on their own journey to optimise their development, whilst understanding the team aspect within the sport.
GB Senior Squads
We have a men’s and a women’s GB squad competing internationally and aiming towards qualification at a Paralympic Games. The squads work remotely within their home environment and their clubs, and come together at Lilleshall National Sports Centre to train as a squad across a weekend. Kevin Tann is head coach for the men’s squad and acts as a player/coach supported by assistant coach Jude Jayatilake (former volleyball player for Sri Lanka). The women’s head coach is former men’s player Justin Philips.
GB Development Group
The GB development group is designed to bring together a mix of athletes that train on some core foundations of the sport, focusing training on their individual development within the sport. Many of these athletes are also invited to the senior squads for additional experience.
The majority of the training takes place with Head Development Coach, Ben Richards at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.
